I almost studied archaeology at university, and have long been fascinated by physical relics that whisper the histories of the world. 2 years ago at a Bitcoin Conference, I was up late one night and began to wonder: can you apply archaeology to the internet?
How will the great virtual worlds of the past be remembered? Neopets, Club Penguin, Habbo Hotel, Second Life! Pacing furiously around our hotel room, I immediately registered a domain name, and spent the rest of the night mapping out how I could tell these great internet histories.
So I interviewed 15 founders who have collectively built the most iconic community platforms on the web and compiled those interviews into a book. Today I’m excited to reveal communitiesbook.com! Visit the website to sign up to pre-order the book & begin to explore The Rise of Virtual Communities.
I can’t thank the visionary founders enough who graciously shared their stories with me for this book.
In addition to the book, each month on the blog you’ll be able to read exclusive interviews with community leaders in tech. Thanks for venturing down the rabbit hole with me- enjoy!
